The EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) entered its definitive phase on 1 January 2026. For ferroalloys the scope is set by CN code: under Annex I, ferro-manganese (7202 11/19), ferro-chromium (7202 41/49) and ferro-nickel (7202 60) are direct CBAM goods, while FeSi, FeSiMn, FeMo, FeV, FeTi, FeNb, FeW, FeP and FeSiMg are on the exception list. Iron and steel are covered, and the embedded emissions of precursor alloys such as FeMn and FeCr also feed the mill's steel declaration. Importers below 50 tonnes a year are exempt under Regulation (EU) 2025/2083.
Iron and steel sit in Annex I; ferroalloys do not. A mill exporting steel into the EU must report the product's embedded emissions, and the carbon footprint of carrier ferroalloys — FeMn, FeSi, FeSiMn, HC FeCr, silicon metal, FeMo — is part of that calculation.
The Q1 2026 CBAM certificate reference price is €75.36 per tonne of CO₂e, tracking the EU ETS auction average. A lower-emission input mix reduces the certificate exposure that sits downstream with the steel producer.

Our planned Carbon Passport — a document that would accompany each shipment with production origin, electricity mix, kWh/t, Scope 1+2 CO₂, total tCO₂/t and an independent verification reference — is in pilot, targeted for Q4 2026, and is not yet live. CBAM figures reflect the definitive phase in force from 1 January 2026; confirm the current reference price with your customs advisor at the time of import.
