Ferrotungsteno

Ferro tungsten (FeW80) delivers a high tungsten unit into liquid steel without the melting losses of metallic W. Once dissolved, tungsten forms stable carbides (WC, W2C) and complex M6C phases that resist dissolution and coarsening at elevated temperature. This is the mechanism behind red-hardness: the tool keeps its cutting edge and hardness even when the tip glows during machining. Tungsten also raises hot strength and abrasion resistance, which is why it anchors high-speed steel (HSS), tool and die steels, hard-facing alloys, and heat-resistant grades. Additions are tuned to target W chemistry, commonly a few tenths up to several wt% depending on grade. The FeW80 cut carries W 75-82% with controlled C (≤0.5%), Si (≤0.7%), Mn (≤0.25%), and low P (≤0.04%) / S (≤0.08%), so the master alloy stays clean and adds minimal tramp residuals to the heat; 10-50mm lump suits clean charge handling and predictable recovery. Each lot ships with COA and MTC for full traceability. Multi-regional sourcing supports CIF Marmara and Gebze bonded stock, FCL or LCL. Send your target grade for an RFQ.

Domande frequenti

Which FeW grade and spec should I select for tool and high-speed steels?
This grade runs W 75-82% (the common FeW80 band) with C ≤0.5%, Si ≤0.7%, Mn ≤0.25%, P ≤0.04% and S ≤0.08%. The high tungsten unit and low carbon suit HSS and tool & die grades where you control C separately and need tight residuals. For hard-facing and heat-resistant alloys the same low-P, low-S envelope protects toughness and red-hardness. Confirm your target W recovery and max C against your ladle practice before fixing the order spec.
What addition rate should I plan for FeW?
Dosage is driven by the residual W you target in the finished steel, not a fixed percentage. For typical HSS grades carrying roughly 6-18% W, plan additions to hit that aim corrected for tungsten recovery, which is high and stable because FeW dissolves without significant fade. Add to a well-deoxidized bath, allow time for dissolution given the coarse 10-50mm sizing, and back-calculate from your COA W value rather than from a generic kg-per-tonne figure.
How is FeW packed, and what are lead time and MOQ?
Standard sizing is 10-50mm lump, typically packed in steel drums or big-bags on pallets for this high-density unit, with weatherproof liners to keep S and P pickup out. Delivery terms can be quoted CIF Marmara or ex Gebze bonded stock; MOQ and lead time depend on grade, sizing and order volume across 5 MT LCL up to 20 MT FCL lots. Share your target W band, sizing and destination and we confirm packing, MOQ and lead time per order.
What quality documentation comes with each FeW lot?
Each lot ships with a COA / MTC stating heat or batch ID and the assayed W plus C, Si, Mn, P and S against the grade limits. Tungsten and impurities are determined by recognised wet-chemistry and instrumental methods (XRF / ICP / combustion for C and S), with sizing verified by screen analysis. Pre-shipment sampling follows standard practice, and third-party inspection or witnessed sampling can be arranged on request so incoming results reconcile with the certificate.
When would I substitute FeW, and with what?
FeW is the efficient route to high residual W where you need hardness, wear resistance and red-hardness in HSS and tool steels. Where the metallurgy allows, partial substitution by ferro-molybdenum is common because Mo gives a similar red-hardness contribution per unit, so many HSS grades balance W and Mo on cost and availability. For pure wear or hard-facing duty, tungsten carbide additions serve a different purpose. Match any swap to the grade's W:Mo ratio and final-property targets.
